Chelsea's Position on Signing Maignan

Chelsea's Position on Signing Maignan

Wednesday 03-12-2025
CaughtOffside confirmed that Chelsea has made no progress in its efforts to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, after the player failed to reach an agreement on renewing his contract, which expires in June 2026.

Maignan had appeared as a preferred option for the Blues to reshape the goalkeeper position, but disagreements over the transfer fee, estimated at less than 15 million euros, halted negotiations earlier.

The site indicated that Chelsea has become satisfied with the performance of its current first-choice goalkeeper, Robert Sánchez, who has contributed this season to one of the lowest goals conceded rates in the Premier League. Additionally, the young goalkeeper Benders, on loan to Strasbourg, has shown abilities confirming he is a long-term prospect for the club.

The same source added that negotiations with Maignan are currently halted, and the English club is content to rely on its current goalkeepers, while Milan is preparing to offer a contract renewal to retain the player after this season, amid ongoing interest from other major clubs such as Bayern Munich.

The report confirmed that the chance of Maignan leaving on a free transfer now seems less likely, but he remains an attractive option for any team if his circumstances at Milan change, which could bring him back into the European transfer race in the future.
