Amorim: The Small Details Were Decisive, and This Is the Most Important Thing
Sunday 30-11-2025
Manchester United coach Rúben Amorim appeared in a press statement after the 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in the thirteenth round of the English Premier League, held at Selhurst Park.

The coach said: "The small details decided the match; the pace and intensity were better in the second half. I noticed that Crystal Palace started to feel tired towards the end of the first half, and I knew they would struggle if we managed to score."

He added: "We continued to control the match well, staying away from our own area and in the opponent's half. We dominated the game effectively, but we just need to be more cautious than we were in the first half."

Regarding how to take advantage of Crystal Palace's fatigue: "It's about movement, and you saw that with Joshua Zirkzee and how he connected play with the team through second balls. You have to explain that to the players, but we have experience in this because we were in the same situation last season when we played midweek matches."

He elaborated on how scoring goals affects Zirkzee's confidence: "Scoring is important, but it's not everything. Goals give confidence, but Joshua has also improved a lot in how he receives and protects the ball. This should give him great confidence. He influences our style of play, and that is very important. He needs to maintain this level in training."

He emphasized the goals of Zirkzee and Mount: "They have quality, and we have a larger number of players capable of scoring. I am very happy with them. Joshua (Zirkzee) hasn't had many minutes, and Mason (Mount) is working very hard."

Regarding the improvement in defensive performance: "We were not close enough to our defensive area, but in the second half, we won all the first balls and then gained the second balls. We took advantage of the opponent's fatigue."

He concluded about being in the top six: "At this stage, I just want to assess our team. We need to develop and create more variety in the way we build play — and that is the most important thing."
