Amorim: Recent Matches Are Disappointing, Injuries Add Challenges for the Team
Portuguese coach Rúben Amorim, manager of Manchester United, revealed the list of absences ahead of the match against Crystal Palace in the fourteenth round of the 2025/2026 English Premier League season, confirming the continued absence of three influential players from the team.
Amorim explained that the duo Matheus Cunha and Harry Maguire will continue to be absent, while Cunha will return in the upcoming match against West Ham, whereas Benjamin Sesko will be sidelined for a longer period than expected. The anticipated match will take place at Old Trafford as part of the Premier League fixtures.
During the pre-match press conference, Amorim said: "I look at the matches and I think we should have earned more points, which is really disappointing and frustrating in the last game."
He added: "It was a tough week as expected, but we have to keep working, and we need to focus on the next match."
The Portuguese coach continued his statements saying: "What we need to show the players is why we lost control against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham, those matches were meant to be won, and sometimes small details can change everything."
He continued: "This year, when we played at home, the intensity was higher, but in the last match against Everton, the intensity was not at the same level."
Amorim pointed out the necessity to improve the mentality of closing out matches, stating: "We need to know how to finish matches in order to win."
Regarding his opinion on Oliver Glasner's 3-4-2-1 formation with Crystal Palace, he said: "We play differently, and you can understand that through the data; they are a different club and perform better than us, it’s very simple."
He added, clarifying: "It cannot be said that all 4-3-3 teams play the same way, we play at different times, defend in different spaces, and attack differently; they simply perform better."
Amorim confirmed the team’s need for more time, saying: "We need time to improve the team’s performance, I said that last year and with time we will reach a better level, in every position we can perform much better."
The Portuguese coach concluded his statements: "We have not yet reached the perfect lineup to play the way we want, but like any team, we need time to put the right characteristics in every position."
