Thursday 27-11-2025
Chelsea coach Enzo Mariska appeared in a press statement following the 3-0 victory against Barcelona in the fifth round of the Champions League group stage.

The coach said: "It was a tough match, but we were aware of its importance. Every match is important, and when you defeat Barcelona, it always feels good. We are happy with today’s result."

The Italian coach added: "After dropping points against Qarabag away, then winning against Benfica and Ajax, and then losing the last match against Bayern Munich, it shows that all these matches are complex and difficult."

Regarding the playing style against Barcelona: "Barcelona is a team that feels comfortable when they have the ball, and if they don’t have it, they feel uncomfortable, so we tried to keep possession. Even in 11 versus 11 play, I felt satisfied because the team was performing well."

Mariska touched on the importance of defensive balance: "The defensive aspect is always important to maintain balance. Fortunately, in the last month, we have started finishing matches with clean sheets in the English Premier League, which is essential if you want to achieve big goals."

About the young player Estevao Willian scoring: "It was a great night for him, but also a big night for the club and all its fans. Something wonderful for everyone. We will see if he starts against Arsenal, but for now, we need to recover energy."

He concluded on the importance of winning the Club World Cup in the summer: "Winning it was very important for the players in terms of confidence because they realized they are capable of beating any team. When trying to build a winning mentality, you have to achieve victories."
