Guardiola: This was special, and I didn't teach Doku
Sunday 09-11-2025
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola appeared in a press statement after the 3-0 victory over Liverpool in the 11th round of the Premier League.

The coach said: "We had a wonderful first half, and in the second half, they pressed more. We forgot a bit how to play, especially in the first 5-10 minutes. We lost some balls and gave them momentum. Then they had one or two chances; overall, the players were great. With the right speed in playing the ball and the necessary defensive commitment."

Regarding Nico O'Reilly, he continued: "Nico O'Reilly was amazing; overall, everyone was exceptional because they are still the champions. Sometimes we place the full-back in the center, and sometimes he plays as a number 10 or 8. He can play in all these roles. His presence in set pieces and long balls is important; he is fast and smart – he plays excellently. I think he was fantastic and has been performing excellently for a while."

About Jeremy Doku: "Listen, I know I'm a good coach, but don't overestimate me. The players are the ones putting in the effort. We are just trying to give them momentum and good connections between them. Do you think I teach him how to dribble and create spaces? That’s a natural talent; he had an exceptional match against one of the best full-backs in the league."

He continued about the match: "Our defensive structure was very good, and with the ball, especially in the first half, there was excellent harmony among the midfielders – we were in good shape."

Regarding reaching his 1000th match, he concluded: "I just want to thank the players and the coaching staff for this gift. I am proud that I achieved this here in Manchester with City. Now we rest and come back with new energy. For me to reach 1000 matches in front of my family and against Liverpool specifically is very special. I have great respect for this club."
