Police Attempts Collide with Asian Funds and Experience
The police team continues its journey in the Asian Champions League amidst significant challenges and technical and physical difficulties, given the clear disparities between it and the other participating clubs in terms of capabilities and experience, which was discussed by the team's former goalkeeper Ibrahim Salem.
Salem stated: "The police fans and Iraqi fans in general should be realistic in evaluating the participation of Iraqi clubs in the Asian Champions League, noting that the tournament includes the elite teams of the continent in terms of technical, financial, and organizational capabilities.
He added: "The police team does what it can and always tries to present itself in an honorable manner, but individual efforts and fighting spirit are not enough in such tournaments, as the gap in abilities is very clear.
He indicated that the Iraqi team needs impactful quality signings to change its continental reality.
He explained: "The problem lies not in the tactics or style of play, but in the absence of decisive elements that make the difference; the team creates opportunities in every match but lacks a striker who knows the way to the goal since Mimy's departure, which reduces its attacking effectiveness despite its possession in most matches.
He continued: "Coach Moamen Suleiman is striving hard to improve performance and correct mistakes, but improvement will not be quick due to the significant differences between teams; Gulf clubs have high-level professionals and huge budgets, while Iranian teams have long continental experience, which makes competition naturally difficult.
Ibrahim Salem concluded his remarks by saying: "The team needs real financial support and different administrative planning to keep pace with these big clubs, as ambition and effort alone are not enough.
