Kivu: Happy to Achieve Victory, We Needed Patience to Overcome Difficulties
Christian Kivu, the head coach of Inter Milan, expressed his great happiness with his team's performance after winning against Fiorentina with a score of 3-0 in the ninth round of the Italian league, confirming that the team showed a strong character after the recent loss to Napoli.
Kivu said: "A team like Inter must know how to overcome difficult moments and continue towards achieving its goals. The match was not easy because Fiorentina is very organized, choosing to defend deeply and rely on counter-attacks."
He added: "We faced some problems in the attacking third during the first half due to wrong decisions, but we showed greater effectiveness after the break. Hakan Çalhanoğlu's goal from a long shot opened the match and made things easier. Today we needed patience to understand the opponent's style and find the right solutions, and we succeeded in that in the second half after we found spaces."
Regarding the brilliance of Croatian Petar Sucic, who scored a wonderful goal after being included in the starting lineup due to Mkhitaryan's injury, Kivu said: "I am very happy for him; he is a complete midfielder who can play in multiple positions, possesses quality and fitness, and covers large areas of the field. He showed high focus in the final touch today, and we are all happy for him because he works hard and gives a lot to the team."
The coach also spoke about the young striker Francesco Pio Esposito, who is playing alongside Lautaro Martinez to compensate for the absence of Thuram, saying: "It is important to give young players playing minutes, but we must be careful in how we integrate them. We are fortunate to have experienced players who help them develop in training and raise their level."
Regarding defender Jan Bisseck, who played in the center-back position during recent matches, Kivu explained: "I am very satisfied with his performance. In my opinion, he can play in the depth, and we tried that before in Belgium against Fiorentina. We knew that the speed of a player like Moise Kean poses a danger, so Jan's characteristics were very suitable for the match."
The coach concluded his statements by saying: "When we were leading 2-0, I told him during the stoppage that if he hesitated, let the opponent run after the long ball instead of trying to anticipate. We like to play with a high defensive line, but defenders must know when to take risks. When I was a player, I wasn't as fast as him, but I learned some little secrets that I now pass on to my defenders."
