Inter Coach: The Situation of Lautaro and Thuram, and St. Gilloise is an Aggressive Opponent
Italian Inter coach Cristian Kievo appeared at a press conference to talk about his team's match against Union Saint-Gilloise scheduled for Tuesday evening in the third round of the Champions League group stage:
The coach said: "We have always said this - we have a commitment to think big. The road is long, but we have management that supports us, and we have to be the best version of ourselves in every competition. We must maintain enthusiasm and avoid mistakes. We performed well in the past weeks and we have the ambition to move forward, knowing that there are always negative moments in every season."
He added when asked if one of the young strikers, Ang-Yuan Bony or Francesco Pio Esposito, might start as starters, he replied: "For me, there is no starting player and another reserve. I have said this for months. I trust all the available players, and everyone is capable of starting from the beginning."
He continued: "I am happy to have a strong and balanced group, every player can contribute to the team's journey."
He elaborated on the condition of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram: "Lautaro is fine and did not suffer any additional problems after the Roma match. He has recovered from the cold and regained his fitness, while Marcus Thuram needs a few more days. We are trying to get him back as soon as possible, but he will probably not be available against Napoli (next Saturday)."
About Saint-Gilloise: "An aggressive opponent who likes high pressing. I don't think they will change their style against us. They have a clear identity, and they are at the top of the local league after collecting three points in the Champions League. They won against Eindhoven, and their match against Newcastle was an exceptional case."
He concluded regarding the importance of the Champions League compared to the league: "We think match by match. We cannot underestimate the Champions League. Reaching the final last season was not a simple achievement. We know the value of the tournament, and we must honor Inter Milan's history in it."
