Former Real Madrid Player Suffers Brain Hemorrhage
Dutchman Royston Drenthe, the former Real Madrid player, suffered a brain hemorrhage last Friday and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Belgium, as announced by FC Ribelin, which includes several retired football players in Belgium.
The club confirmed in its statement that Drenthe, who is 38 years old, is in stable condition and is receiving "the necessary care and is in safe hands," noting that his family has requested respect for his privacy during the recovery period.
The statement, reported by Reuters and Dutch agency De Telegraaf, made it clear that everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery and a quick return to his normal life.
It is worth mentioning that Drenthe rose to prominence at Feyenoord and shone in the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, where he won the title and was awarded the tournament's best player, which opened the door for his transfer to Real Madrid, but he failed to establish his position there before leaving in 2012 after loan spells at Hercules and Everton.
