Change in the Referee Team for the 2025 African Super Cup Final
Wednesday 15-10-2025
The Referees Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to make a surprise adjustment to the officiating team assigned to manage the 2025 African Super Cup Final, which will feature Morocco's RS Berkane and Egypt's Pyramids FC, scheduled to take place next Saturday at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo.

According to reliable sources, this decision came after the suspension of assistant referee Mohamed Abdullah Ibrahim due to refereeing errors he made during the match between Libya and Cape Verde in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which included the disallowance of a legitimate goal for the Libyan national team on the grounds of offside, sparking widespread controversy in African football circles.

In light of this, CAF has decided to call up Kenyan referee Stephen Ochieng to replace the suspended Sudanese referee in the first assistant position during the upcoming Super Cup clash.

CAF had previously announced the appointment of a Sudanese officiating team to manage the final match, consisting of:

Mahmoud Ismail (main referee)

Mohamed Abdullah Ibrahim (first assistant – replaced by Stephen Ochieng from Kenya)

Gilbert Cherot (second assistant – from Kenya)

Abdul Aziz Bouh (fourth referee – from Mauritania)

With this adjustment, the match will be officiated by a multinational team in one of the most anticipated continental clashes of the year, bringing together the champions of the CAF Confederation Cup and the CAF Champions League.
