Harry Maguire Approaches Contract Renewal with Manchester United
English defender Harry Maguire is close to signing a new contract with Manchester United before the end of 2025, with only eight months remaining on his current deal.
The Sun reported that renewal negotiations between the two parties have already begun, as Matt Hargreaves, the club's football negotiations director, has had preliminary talks with the player's representatives.
Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim had requested to activate the extension option in Maguire's contract last January and included him in the new leadership group of the team this summer.
The newspaper indicated that Maguire, who currently earns around £140,000 a week after his salary was reduced by 25% following United's absence from the Champions League in 2024, may continue under the same financial terms without modification.
Maguire played the role of captain again during the League Cup match against Grimsby Town last August, marking the first time he wore the captain's armband since it was stripped from him during the tenure of former coach Erik ten Hag in 2023.
Despite being recently excluded from the England national team, the 32-year-old defender has been delivering consistent performances for the past two years, following a failed transfer to West Ham in a deal estimated at £30 million.
It is worth mentioning that Maguire joined Manchester United in 2019 from Leicester City in a deal worth £80 million, becoming the most expensive defender in football history, and he has so far participated in 253 matches wearing the team's jersey.
