The German Football Association stated in an official statement that 23-year-old Vollmaid did not travel with the team due to an influenza infection, following his participation and scoring a goal in Newcastle's 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
His return date has not yet been determined, but he will miss Germany's matches against Luxembourg on Friday in Sinsheim, and against Northern Ireland on Monday.
The report indicated that coach Nagelsmann did not call up any replacement for Vollmaid, who joined Newcastle last summer from Stuttgart, and has performed notably by scoring three goals in the last eight days, including a goal in the Champions League against Union Saint-Gilloise.
