UEFA Announces Punishments for Carvajal and Simeone
The Spanish newspaper 'AS' revealed that the European Football Association has decided to suspend Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal for two matches after he was sent off against Marseille for headbutting goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.
As a result, the player will miss the match against Kairat and then Juventus, noting that he is suffering from an injury that would have prevented him from participating.
According to the source, UEFA's disciplinary committee applied Article 15 concerning aggression against an opposing player, considering that the incident does not warrant a harsher penalty, unlike previous cases such as Savic, who was punished with four matches later reduced to three, or Gattuso, who was suspended for five matches in 2011 after a similar assault.
In the same context, the newspaper clarified that UEFA also decided to suspend Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone for only one match after his altercation with a Liverpool fan at Anfield, as the incident was deemed unsportsmanlike behavior.
