Referee Expert: Koulibaly Deserved to be Sent Off Against Al-Akhidood
Friday 26-09-2025
Egyptian referee analyst Mohamed Kamal Risha criticized the performance of Belgian referee Eric Lambrichts in the match between Al-Hilal and Al-Akhidood, which took place on Thursday as part of the fourth round of the Roshen Saudi League, confirming that a significant error occurred in managing the match.

Risha explained that the referee neglected to show a red card to Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly after his violent tackle on Al-Akhidood player Gokhan Gul, despite him having received a yellow card earlier in the 25th minute.

The analyst added that the foul committed by Koulibaly ten minutes after his first warning was sufficient to issue a second yellow card and send him off the field, but the referee only awarded a direct free kick without making the appropriate decision.

On the other hand, Risha defended the referee's decision not to award a penalty kick for Al-Hilal in the 39th minute, following a collision between Salem Al-Dosari and Al-Akhidood defender Koray Gunter inside the penalty area.

He explained this by saying: "Gunter jumped normally to clear the ball with his head, while Al-Dosari rushed in from behind, which led to him colliding with the player's outstretched arm during the jump, a situation that does not warrant a penalty kick."

It is worth mentioning that the match, held at the "Kingdom Arena" in the capital Riyadh, ended with Al-Hilal winning 3-1 against Al-Akhidood, allowing the blue team to continue their early resurgence in the league competitions.
