Mariska: The first half annoyed me, and we knew this would be the case

Chelsea's coach Enzo Mariska appeared in a press statement after qualifying for the Round of 16 of the League Cup at the expense of Lincoln City with a score of 2-1.

The coach said: "We knew the match would be very difficult, as they are the most direct team in the first division, relying heavily on crosses, free kicks, and throw-ins inside the penalty area, and we had to defend against that."

He added: "We struggled a bit in the first half, but we were much better in the second half and won the match."

The coach emphasized: "It was not an easy match. I told the players it wouldn't be easy, and that's why I was very annoyed in the first half, because we knew we had to perform better. Overall, they performed well."

Regarding Goyo's absence from the lineup: "The reason is that he felt a slight issue in preparation for the match yesterday, it's not important, but with Liam Delap already absent, we didn't want to take any risks. So we gave the opportunity tonight to both Tai [George] and Jamie."
