Simeone: Many players arrived, and we knew this could happen

Diego Simeone, the head coach of Atlético Madrid, made statements following his team's draw against Real Mallorca with a score of 1-1, in the fifth round of the Spanish league.

Simeone said: "The team needs to play as it did against Liverpool from the 20th minute until the end, and as we did against Mallorca, we put in a good performance, we dominated play, forced the opponent to retreat, and created scoring opportunities, but we lacked efficiency. The work is there, and the players are engaged and tiring the plan, but decisiveness is what makes the difference in football."

He talked about Julián Álvarez's performance, saying: "He is definitely our best attacking player, he had a very good game, but I saw that we needed Sörloth to create deeper situations inside the penalty area. He was sent off in a controversial moment, and we remained with ten players. As for Julián, it is natural for any player to be upset when substituted."

He added: "There is no benefit in discussing whether the red card was correct or not; in the end, it was a red card, and with the numerical disadvantage, we scored a goal through Llorente's speed, but we couldn't maintain it due to Moriki's goal."

Regarding the substitution of Barrios, Simeone clarified: "In the previous match, he played a full 90 minutes and suffered a blow behind the knee, and he showed signs of fatigue, which is why I brought on Conor, and fortunately, he scored a goal."

About Atlético Madrid's current situation, Simeone said: "We must look at the positive side and correct what is necessary. We are conceding too many goals, and we need to improve. Offensively, we have started scoring in almost every match, but we need to maintain the results as we did against Villarreal."

Simeone concluded his statements by saying: "We are trying to build a new team, many players have arrived, and we knew this could happen, that we would go through this phase. We hope that efficiency and decisiveness will bring us closer to the reality we deserve."
