Guardiola: Manchester City is not a contender for the Champions League
Wednesday 17-09-2025
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, confirmed that his team is not considered among the contenders to win the UEFA Champions League title this season, despite the great ambition within the team to achieve the European title for the second time in its history.

Guardiola said during the press conference ahead of the match against Napoli in the first round of the group stage: "We have to enjoy these moments, but Manchester City, apparently, is not among the teams favored to win the Champions League this year."

Regarding the team's priorities this season, the Spanish coach clarified: "I will not prioritize the Champions League at the expense of the Premier League; we want to perform well in all competitions."

Guardiola also spoke about facing Napoli star Kevin De Bruyne, the former Manchester City player, saying: "I look forward to seeing him after the match; it’s great to have him back at the Etihad Stadium. Players at this level do not need a long time to adapt to a new club."

Guardiola praised Napoli's coach, Italian Antonio Conte, saying: "Conte is a top-class coach, and he can achieve great success at any club he manages, so it’s not surprising to me that he is succeeding with Napoli."

On the topic of goalkeeping, Guardiola commented: "We have always had great goalkeepers like Ederson and others who have helped us a lot, but Donnarumma has a lot of experience, and although he is still 26 years old, he is a top-class goalkeeper."

It is worth mentioning that Manchester City has been experiencing fluctuations in results since last season, and they are looking to get back on track starting with the match against Napoli, scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, in the opening of the team’s journey in the Champions League.
