Chelsea Faces 74 Official Charges from the English Football Association
The English Football Association announced that it has directed 74 official charges against Chelsea FC, related to violations in dealings with player agents and third-party investments, covering the period from 2009 to 2022.
The association confirmed in its statement that most of the violations occurred between the 2010/2011 and 2015/2016 seasons, noting that the club has until September 19 to provide an official response to the charges.
According to the Daily Mail, the current owners of Chelsea, who acquired the club in May 2022, discovered these breaches during the financial review prior to the acquisition process and took the initiative to inform the English Football Association, demonstrating their transparent and complete cooperation.
In an official statement, Chelsea confirmed that it was the one to report the potential violations as soon as they were discovered, indicating that the new management provided regulatory bodies with full access to the club's historical files and data.
The club added: "Chelsea has shown unprecedented transparency, and we will continue to cooperate with the English Football Association to resolve this matter as quickly as possible."
The English Football Association indicated that potential sanctions could be extensive, possibly including point deductions or transfer bans, but Chelsea's full cooperation and the fact that the violations date back to the previous ownership may lead to a mere financial penalty.
It is worth noting that the London club is also under a separate investigation by the Premier League regarding other historical financial violations in recent years.
