Sofiane Feghouli Praises His Experience in Iraq and Reveals His Aspirations
Algerian star Sofiane Feghouli, who plays for Al-Naft Baghdad, shared his initial impressions after a month in the Iraqi capital, confirming that he feels very comfortable with the club, his teammates, and the coaching staff led by Issam Hamad.
Feghouli joined Al-Naft Baghdad on August 11 last month on a free transfer after his contract with Turkish club Karagümrük ended, marking his first experience in Iraqi football.
The player said in media statements: "The atmosphere here is very good. The people are wonderful to me, and my teammates and the technical and administrative staff are very kind. What I've seen so far is that the players have great physical strength and high fitness levels, with good quality, but the tactical side needs more work."
He added: "The overall situation at the club is excellent for me. From the beginning, my impressions have been very positive; everyone asks about my comfort and treats me like a younger brother, which makes me very happy. I aspire to give everything I have to help the team achieve its goals this season."
Feghouli explained that "the Iraqi player is physically capable of playing anywhere in the world because he is very strong and has high fitness levels, but the difference between Iraq and Europe lies in tactical details and decisions made on the pitch, which need to be developed to raise the level further."
Regarding his ambitions with Al-Naft Baghdad, the Algerian star said: "Every morning I set one goal in my mind, which is to win. It depends on hard work, high-quality training, rest, and continuous communication with my teammates. With Captain Issam Hamad, we feel that we are working very professionally, and he is like a big brother to us and an experienced coach, and I am happy to work with him."
Feghouli has already made his mark with the Baghdad team, having scored the winning goal from a direct free kick in a friendly match against Al-Salmiyah of Kuwait, which has increased the enthusiasm of the fans who expect him to make a significant contribution in the Iraqi Stars League.
