Alliance of 8 Clubs Presses for Increased Foreign Player Participation in Roshan League
Eight clubs from the Saudi Roshan League, led by Al Hilal and Al Ittihad, have moved to demand amendments to the foreign player participation system, through a proposal that allows counting birth players as full foreigners during the current season.
According to the program "Nadina" on MBC 2, the eight clubs are Al Hilal, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli, Al Qadisiyah, Al Ettifaq, Damak, Neom, and Al Shabab, as these clubs seek to allow ten foreign players to participate in a single match.
The Saudi Professional League Association had approved last season to raise the ceiling for foreign contracts to ten players, with only eight of them registered in the main list, while allowing the presence of two from the birth category.
However, the clubs participating in the alliance believe that this system limits the full benefit from contracts, as they demand permission for all ten players to participate in any official match, instead of being limited to only eight on the field.
This proposal is considered one of the most prominent issues to be discussed between the clubs and the association in the upcoming period, especially since its implementation will give coaches greater flexibility in distributing the positions of foreign players on the field.
It is worth noting that the Roshan League competitions will return in mid-September after the end of the international break, as the Saudi national team is conducting its preparatory camp in the Czech Republic in preparation for the upcoming challenges.
