Union Finalizes Deals for Doumbia and Fernandez
The management of Al-Ittihad Club has completed its final agreement with the duo Mohamed Doumbia and Roger Fernandez, in preparation for their joining the first football team, as confirmed by special sources to 'Asharq Al-Awsat'.
The contracts are scheduled to be signed officially today, Thursday, after the players pass the necessary medical examinations, and they will join the team's preparations in Jeddah following the conclusion of their international participation with their national teams.
Doumbia is moving from Royal Antwerp in Belgium to occupy the pivot position, while Fernandez is arriving from Sporting Braga in Portugal to play on the right attacking side, as part of Al-Ittihad's efforts to strengthen its lines before resuming competitions.
The players will join under the category of expatriates, with Doumbia being registered directly in the first team, while Fernandez will be listed in the reserve team with the possibility of being called up to the first team when needed for technical reasons.
Sources indicate that coach Laurent Blanc plans to gradually involve the duo in the elite AFC Champions League, which allows the participation of all foreigners, providing them with an ideal opportunity to acclimatize quickly.
Doumbia and Fernandez are also expected to have the opportunity to appear in Al-Ittihad's match against Al-Wehda in the King's Cup at the end of September, and they will participate in league matches according to rotation requirements or in case one of the starters gets injured.
