UEFA Confirms Chelsea's Commitment to Financial Rules and Balancing Its Summer Spending
The European Football Association confirmed that Chelsea FC has succeeded in balancing its spending on summer signings, in accordance with the terms of the settlement agreement made after breaching financial rules.
UEFA had imposed a fine of £26.9 million on Chelsea last July, following violations related to profit rules and team formation costs.
Under the agreement, Chelsea was allowed to register new players in the Champions League only if they compensated for their signings by selling players from the squad in the Conference League last season.
The departures of players such as Noni Madueke, Kieran Dewsbury-Hall, Christopher Nkunku, and Nicolas Jackson contributed to the club's ability to register new signings, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Alejandro Garnacho, Jamie Getiniez, and Jorell Hato in the Champions League list.
Chelsea had an exceptional summer, raising £314 million from the sale of 23 players, against spending £296 million, finishing the transfer window with a net profit of £18 million.
UEFA clarified in an official statement: "The submitted list met the conditions of the settlement agreement, was reviewed and approved before being published on the association's website."
Chelsea will compete in the group stage against teams: Bayern Munich, Benfica, Ajax, Qarabag, Barcelona, Atalanta, Paphos, and Napoli, starting its journey against Bayern Munich in Munich on September 17.
