The Real Reason Behind Manchester United's Withdrawal from Signing Emiliano Martinez

Wednesday 03-09-2025
English media reports have revealed the reason behind Manchester United's withdrawal from signing Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, the Aston Villa keeper, during the summer transfer window of 2025.

According to the "Mirror" newspaper, Manchester United backed out of the deal due to Martinez's high weekly salary of £200,000, which the club deemed unsuitable for a 33-year-old goalkeeper.

The Argentine keeper was among the options considered to strengthen the goalkeeping position, but the Red Devils preferred to turn towards Belgian Sini Lammens from Antwerp, especially with goalkeepers Andre Onana and Altay Bayındır already in the squad.

Martinez faces a new challenge at Aston Villa, as doubts hover over his starting participation this season, given coach Unai Emery's confidence in goalkeeper Bizzot.
