Guardiola: We have a large number of players, and some will leave this summer
Pep Guardiola, the head coach of Manchester City, confirmed that the club is set to part ways with several of its players during the ongoing summer transfer window, noting that the team is suffering from an excess in the number of players.
In a press conference held before the match against Wolverhampton in the opening round of the Premier League, the Spanish coach explained: "There are still some players who will leave, but this applies to many clubs. I love them all and they love to stay, but the situation is not easy, and they know that very well."
He added: "We have a large number of players, and tomorrow there will be two out of the list, and when the injured players return, the number may reach four or five. The situation is not ideal; I do not know exactly how many players will leave, as there are still three weeks left in the market."
Regarding the Brazilian winger Savinho, he said: "As for Savinho, whether it's Tottenham or any other club that wants to sign him, they must contact the club first. What matters to me is that Savinho will stay with us this season, and I hope he continues for years because he is only 21 years old."
He continued: "He is an exceptional player, having played more than 3000 minutes last season, but he still needs to develop his decision-making in the final third. However, his desire is the most important, and if there is no agreement with the club, he will stay here."
Guardiola also confirmed the imminent transfer of James McAtee to Nottingham Forest: "I wish he could stay with us, but we have a large number of players and he wants more playing minutes. I appreciate his desire, and this decision is fair for him."
Regarding the physical condition of the team before facing Wolverhampton, Guardiola said: "Phil Foden and Rodri will travel with us, while Gvardiol and Kovacic are not ready yet. Rodri has recently returned after a long injury, and we are handling his situation carefully to avoid another setback."
He concluded his remarks by saying: "We are ready for the start of the season. We had a short preparation period, but it was positive. Our goal is to enjoy the matches and deal with the upcoming challenges."
