Tebas Threatened with Dismissal from His Position Due to Barcelona
Miguel Ángel Galán, president of the Transparency and Democracy in Sports Association in Spain, has returned to the spotlight once again, this time targeting the president of La Liga, Javier Tebas.
According to the Spanish newspaper "AS", Galán submitted a memorandum of more than 50 pages to the Spanish Sports Council (CSD), accusing Tebas of committing five very serious violations, following his disclosure of private information related to FC Barcelona.
According to the report, the alleged violations are linked to Tebas's breach of the "duty of confidentiality" regarding Barcelona's financial data, including details of the sale of VIP seats at Camp Nou, changes in auditors, the club's financial status, as well as publishing internal reports and correspondence related to the Sports Council, without official permission from the Catalan club.
The source added that Galán confirmed that Barcelona had not publicly disclosed this data before, making Tebas's actions an "illegal disclosure of information".
The case began after La Liga issued a statement on April 2, 2025, announcing that Barcelona had not recorded €100 million from 475 VIP seats in its accounts, considering the club in violation of financial fair play rules. Barcelona responded five days later by accusing Tebas of breaching confidentiality, which led La Liga to later remove the statement from its official sites.
The complaint also included criticism of a meeting between Tebas and Athletic Bilbao regarding Barcelona's attempt to sign Nico Williams, where Barcelona's financial accounts were accessed, which Galán considered a new violation of confidentiality.
The Sports Council is now expected to decide on referring the complaint to the Administrative Court of Sports (TAD), which is the body that can dismiss Tebas from his position, noting that the court had publicly reprimanded Tebas in a previous case in September 2024.
For its part, La Liga has refused to comment on the complaint filed by Miguel Ángel Galán.
