Barcelona Plans to Punish Ter Stegen for Refusal to Cooperate on Medical Report
Tuesday 05-08-2025
The Spanish club Barcelona intends to take disciplinary action against its German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen after he refused to sign the consent form for sending his injury report to the medical committee of the Spanish league.

A spokesperson for Barcelona confirmed the accuracy of what was reported by the newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" regarding the incident, indicating that the club is considering taking legal or disciplinary steps against the German goalkeeper.

According to the regulations, players' medical data is considered confidential and cannot be shared with relevant authorities without the player's written consent. Although Barcelona acknowledges this right, the club's management believes that players also have obligations towards the club as employees.

Ter Stegen announced via his social media accounts that he expects to be out of the game for three months, while Barcelona believes his absence will last four months, which grants the club, according to La Liga rules, the right to invest 80% of the player's salary in signing a replacement.

The club plans to rely on the new goalkeeper Juan Garcia, who comes from Espanyol, to compensate for Ter Stegen's absence, as the team seeks to compete after winning the domestic treble last season.

The crisis comes at a time when Barcelona is suffering from financial problems, which have previously affected its ability to register new players, including Dani Olmo last season.

According to media reports, the club was considering selling Ter Stegen despite his contract running until 2028 to reduce financial burdens, but his recent injury may hinder the completion of any potential deal, while he is expected to drop to third place in the team's goalkeeper ranking.
