De Jong Closest to Succeeding Ter Stegen at Barcelona
Reports have indicated that Dutchman Frenkie de Jong is the leading candidate to become the first captain of FC Barcelona, should the coaching staff decide to strip the captaincy from German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen in the near future.
De Jong tops the list of candidates due to his leadership qualities and growing role in the locker room, while following behind him in the leadership hierarchy are Raphinha, Ronald Araújo, and Pedri.
The fourth spot on the list of captains remains under discussion, with suggestions that it could go to either Gavi or Iñigo Martínez.
It is worth noting that the German goalkeeper has entered into a crisis with the Catalan club's management due to his refusal to leave, as well as his recent statement revealing that he will need three months to recover from the back surgery he underwent, at a time when the club was planning to use 80% of his salary to register new players, provided that his absence would exceed four months. The player also refused to sign the medical report prepared by the club to submit to La Liga in the last hours.
