Mbappe Defends Hakimi in Rape Case
French newspaper "L'Équipe" revealed that French star Kylian Mbappe testified before official authorities in France to defend his Moroccan friend Achraf Hakimi, who is accused in a rape case that could lead to a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
According to the newspaper's report, Mbappe, the Real Madrid star, was questioned regarding the incident that dates back several months, and he clarified in his testimony that Hakimi was emotionally devastated the day after the incident.
Mbappe said: "We were at a restaurant that night, and Achraf broke down crying. He told me that he did not rape the girl, but confirmed that the relationship was consensual, and he never felt at any moment that she was refusing."
He added: "Since the beginning of our professional careers, we have been trained to handle such scenarios. Achraf is not a wild person; he always treats women with respect, even during times when he was drunk."
The French star continued: "I have never seen him behave inappropriately with women, nor have I heard from my friends that he crossed any boundaries with any girl."
Mbappe's testimony comes at a sensitive time, as the case is still open before the French judiciary, while Hakimi faces the threat of a severe penalty if officially convicted.
