Libyan Football Federation Issues Strict Regulations Regarding VAR
The Competitions Committee of the Libyan Football Federation issued an official circular today, Monday, directed to the clubs participating in the six-team championship league for the sports season 2024-2025, currently taking place in Milan, Italy.
The circular includes strict organizational regulations concerning the use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology and adherence to local Italian laws.
The committee confirmed that the VAR room is part of the officiating crew, and it is strictly prohibited for anyone outside the crew, including club representatives, players, or administrative and technical staff, to enter this room before, during, or after the match, in order to ensure the independence of the officiating decision.
It also emphasized that any unauthorized entry is considered a serious violation, punishable by disciplinary actions that may include suspension and prohibition from being present in the organizational areas.
The committee clarified that the readiness check of the technology is limited only to members of the organizing committee or those officially authorized, without any interference in the referees' work, while stressing that VAR is an assistive tool and not a condition for the validity of the match, and the field referee's decisions remain final according to the laws of the IFAB.
In a very important point, the committee warned that Italian law classifies referees as public officials, and any assault against them is considered a criminal offense that may carry a penalty of up to 16 years in prison.
The committee affirmed that any violation of the regulations or Italian laws will expose the violator to strict penalties, according to the regulations of the Libyan Federation and the local laws in effect in Italy.
The committee concluded its circular by calling for respect for the laws and regulations, and adherence to the highest standards of discipline and conduct within the stadiums, to ensure a representation befitting the reputation of Libyan football in international forums.
