The Court Decides to Imprison Carlo Ancelotti for One Year
The regional court in Madrid has issued a ruling to imprison the former Italian coach of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, for one year after he was convicted of tax evasion related to the financial year 2014.
Legal sources informed the Spanish news agency that Article 30 of the regional court in Madrid also sentenced him, regarding the fraud that occurred in 2014, to a fine of €386,361.93 and loss of eligibility for public assistance or grants and the right to enjoy tax or social security benefits or incentives for three years.
Despite being acquitted of the charge of personal income tax fraud in 2015, the court ruled that the civil liability arising from the judgment in favor of the public treasury amounted to €386,361.93.
The public prosecutor accused the former Real Madrid coach of defrauding the public treasury of €1,062,079 in the financial years 2014 (€386,361) and 2015 (€675,718) during the Italian's first period as coach of Real Madrid.
The Italian coach stated during the session held on April 2 and 3 that he had no intention of defrauding the tax authority, asserting that he followed the instructions provided to him by the club and its financial advisors. He also requested acquittal, and although he did not obtain it, he requested the application of mitigating circumstances due to his payment of the owed amount in December 2021, in addition to the delay in legal proceedings.
It is unlikely that the Italian coach will be imprisoned, given that the sentence is less than two years and there are no criminal records in his history.
