Thursday 11-06-2026
Press reports indicated that the former World Cup champion and Brazilian defender Ricardo Rocha, a former Real Madrid player, was arrested in a dramatic development before his travel to the United States to work as an analyst during the World Cup tournament.

Rocha, 63 years old, was preparing to head to the host country of the tournament to join the media coverage of the World Cup matches, which are hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

According to reports, the arrest warrant was issued by the civil court in the 16th family circuit in Fortaleza of the Court of Justice in the state of Ceara, due to accusations related to the accumulation of child support debts amounting to 2414.57 Brazilian Reals.

The reports also indicated that the arrest warrant will remain valid until April 2028, and it stipulates the possibility of his release after 45 days if there are no other legal obstacles or new orders issued against him.

Ricardo Rocha was one of the prominent defenders of his generation, participating in Brazil's national team winning the World Cup title in 1994, the last World Cup hosted by the United States, although his participation in the tournament was limited due to an injury that forced him to miss most of the matches, as he only played for 64 minutes.

During his international career, he played 38 matches with the Brazilian national team over 17 years, while he played primarily at the club level in Brazil, with professional experiences at Sporting Lisbon and Real Madrid.
