Kroos: Real Madrid Still Lacks a Player Like Me, and Xabi Will Know How to Fix Things
Sunday 06-07-2025
German Toni Kroos, the recently retired legend of Real Madrid, made important statements regarding the royal team's situation under new coach Xabi Alonso, as well as his opinion on the team's technical needs and the role of his former teammate Luka Modric.

Kroos said: "Real Madrid still lacks a player like me, and they are still searching for one; there aren't many players with this style, and those who exist are not easy to sign."

He spoke about the team's new coach, Xabi Alonso, stating: "It's too early to judge Real Madrid with Alonso; it takes time to evaluate the change and implement his ideas. All I can say is that he did a great job in Germany."

He added: "I am confident that Xabi will know how to correct what needs correcting; there are things that need to change, but with this quality, things should go well."

Kroos praised the quality of Real Madrid players but issued a warning, saying: "Good players can and must play together, but they also have to defend. For me, attack and defense have always been one inseparable thing."

He also touched on his former teammate Luka Modric, who is in the final days of his career at Real Madrid, saying: "He has always been an exceptional player; he will never lose his quality. Physically, it's clear he is not what he once was, but he still contributes a lot and enjoys it, not just on the field but off it as well; his unique touch will never fade."

Kroos explained the reason for his retirement, confirming that he was not ready to accept the limited role that Modric currently plays in the team: "Some accept different roles within the team, but as long as they enjoy football, that's great for them."
