Aston Villa Approaches Sale of Women's Team Stake to Avoid Financial Penalties
Monday 30-06-2025
Aston Villa continues its efforts to avoid breaching the profit and financial sustainability rules of the Premier League, as the club is in advanced talks to sell a stake in the women's team to investors for a total value that could reach £55 million.

According to the Telegraph, Villa plans to sell about 10% of the women's team for around £5.5 million, with the remaining stake to be transferred later to the holding company that owns the club, controlled by businessman Nassef Sawiris. This move comes ahead of the end of the financial accounting period for the 2024/2025 season.

The club is also considering a similar step to sell other assets, such as the 'The Warehouse' project, a new music and entertainment center surrounding the team's stadium, valued at about £50 million, in an additional attempt to boost the club's revenues.

Aston Villa had recorded significant losses over the past two seasons, increasing financial pressures on it, especially with its commitment to reduce the wage-to-revenue ratio according to UEFA requirements, in order to avoid potential penalties including fines or point deductions.
