Simeone: We Leave the Tournament Feeling Frustrated, and the Same Thing Happens to Us
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone appeared in a press statement after leaving the FIFA Club World Cup, despite winning 1-0 against Botafogo in the final round of the group stage.
The coach said: "We leave with frustration for not being able to qualify for the next round. Getting six points in the group wasn’t bad."
He added: "The loss against Paris Saint-Germain hurt us, as any situation could have harmed us. Today, with the penalty not counted, they went back to review a previous incident just not to count it, the same things keep repeating... We are very clear about what we need to improve, and that helps us to get better.
Regarding the non-awarding of a penalty for Alvarez: "I won't touch on this subject; I congratulate the opponent, the competitor who did everything he could. He defended what needed to be defended. When you defend well and attack well, you have a better chance of winning."
He concluded: "I am proud of the boys' work. We gave everything we had. We won two out of three matches... Unfortunately, we were eliminated..."
