Infantino: The 2025 Club World Cup is a Historic Moment, and We Don't Want Empty Stadiums
Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA, confirmed that the 2025 Club World Cup represents a historic moment in the journey of football, likening its upcoming launch in the United States to what happened during the first edition of the World Cup for national teams in 1930.
The new edition of the tournament will take place from June 15 to July 13, with 32 teams participating for the first time in the history of the competition, in a move aimed at transforming the tournament into a global event that reflects the great diversity in club football.
The Egyptian club Al Ahly will begin its journey in the tournament by facing the American team Inter Miami on June 15 at Hard Rock Stadium, in a highly anticipated match that marks the opening of an exceptional edition of the Club World Cup.
Infantino stated in his remarks: "It is very similar to what happened in 1930 when the first edition of the World Cup was launched; today, we are about to launch a new historic tournament."
He added: "It is true that it does not have complete consensus due to discussions about match congestion, but I am confident that everyone will recognize its value when the competitions begin."
The FIFA President continued, saying: "This tournament is a real dream; when the kickoff whistle blows, the whole world will feel its importance. It is a special moment in the history of football."
Regarding ticket prices and the criticisms directed at FIFA, Infantino explained: "We are sometimes criticized if prices are high, and at other times if they are low. We are trying to make the tournament accessible to everyone, especially students and young people, because I know what it means to be a student wanting to watch a big match without having enough money."
He concluded his remarks by affirming: "Our goal is full stadiums, and I am completely confident that we deserve that, considering the number of tickets sold so far and the demand for broadcasting rights; the audience will be present in full force."
