Inzaghi: I will meet with the club, and PSG deserved to win the title
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi expressed his disappointment after losing the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain (5-0) at the Allianz Arena.
The coach said: "It wasn't as I expected, we were the first to realize that, but nothing diminishes my pride in these players and their journey. We faced a team that deserved to win the match, and to win the Champions League, and perhaps they are a better team than us."
He added: "Our start in the match was poor; we conceded an early goal and then fell behind, which made things easier for Paris Saint-Germain. This painful defeat leaves us with a great bitterness, but it does not erase what we have done to reach here."
He continued: "We should have performed better, but I will not forget what the players did this season. It is true that the players did not win any titles, but they still delivered a great performance. I told them that in the locker room, they should hold their heads high. There is disappointment tonight, but this group deserves praise."
Regarding his future with Inter amid interest from Saudi club Al-Hilal in signing him: "We will see in the coming days, as there will be a meeting with the club. After losing the final for the second time in three years, we feel a huge intolerable disappointment. There will be time to talk calmly with the club; the president and management have always been present and stood by us again in the locker room this evening."
He added: "We tried to play long balls to get out from under PSG's pressure, but they were also stronger in the second ball. Once we conceded the first goal, we fell back; it was clear that we should have performed better, played better technically, and improved our movements, but we did not do what we hoped for this evening."
Regarding the absence of Frattesi: "Davide deserved to play in the final, but once I decided to bring on Zalewski instead of Dimarco, because we weren't creating many chances on the left, at that moment, Calhanoglu and Besic were forced to leave due to injury, and we were trailing 3-0. At that moment, I preferred to make different choices."
