Yurtchich: Very Proud of the Team's Performance Against Sundowns
Croatian coach Krunoslav Yurtchich expressed his satisfaction with the draw achieved by his team against Sundowns in the Champions League.
The match between Pyramids and South Africa's Sundowns ended in a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the African Champions League final.
Yurtchich said during the post-match press conference: "I am very proud of the performance the team showed against a big club like Sundowns, which has extensive experience in the African Champions League."
He added: "Pyramids played a very strong match and was the better team for most of the game. If it weren't for bad luck, we would have scored many goals, but in the end, Walid El Karti's goal in the last minutes is a reward for this champion team with a great character."
He continued: "I am sad about missing several opportunities but happy with the draw and the players' wonderful performance and their great character, bouncing back strongly despite being a goal down. This is the character I have built since taking over, and it has often been repeated this season in the league and the continental competition, coming back from behind, scoring, and winning, which reflects an ideal character for my players."
He added: "The players were heroes and deserve praise for their wonderful performance, but in the end, the team has not achieved anything yet. What happened is that we finished the first half only, and we have a second half in Egypt in just a week. We must win and secure the continental title."
He concluded: "Pyramids does not receive any support from anyone in Egypt and fights alone in various competitions, despite representing Egypt in the most important tournament on the continent. In just 48 hours, they must head to Ismailia to play a decisive match in the league against Ceramica Cleopatra, which will determine the league champion, and the main players must play it due to its importance. It would have been better to support Pyramids in the continental final so they can win the title for Egypt."
The second leg of the African Champions League final will be held on Sunday, June 1.
