Renard: Renewing the Saudi National Team is the Toughest Challenge
The French coach Hervé Renard of the Saudi national team appeared to talk about the toughest decision he made after returning to lead the 'Green', and his chances in the Gold Cup of CONCACAF.
Renard said during the media seminar of the North American Federation: 'We will play the last two matches in the Asian qualifiers against Bahrain and Australia with high focus.'
He continued: 'We may be affected during our participation in the Gold Cup, as we will attend the tournament without 7 players from Al Hilal due to the Club World Cup, but we consider participation in the tournament as good preparation for the Asian playoff qualifying for the World Cup.'
Renard added: 'I renewed the elements of the Saudi national team due to some players not playing with their clubs, and this was the toughest decision I made. I knew six months ago when I returned that this was the challenge, and I accepted it; we do not make excuses, and we will not accept any excuse.'
The Green coach confirmed that the increase in foreign players has greatly developed the Roshen League, but the Saudi national team has suffered from the lack of participation of local players.
He mentioned in his talk: 'Saudi fans are crazy about football; no one will know the passion of Saudis for football without coming and visiting it. The fans in the upcoming period will focus on America due to the participation of the national team in the CONCACAF tournament and Al Hilal in the Club World Cup; I realize the high aspirations of Saudis.'
Regarding his chances in his group in the Gold Cup of CONCACAF, he said: 'It is a tough group; we respect all competitors. We previously played a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago; they have players with great abilities and a coach with significant experience.'
He concluded: 'I know the coach of the Haitian national team; I played alongside him a long time ago, and I realize they will be motivated to face us, while the Americans are the favorites to lead our group. I know their Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino, but we have to fight against all three teams to qualify.'
