Amorim: I will leave in this case, and we did not present a perfect match
Rubin Amorim, the Manchester United coach, expressed his disappointment after losing the UEFA Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur with a score of 1-0 at San Mames stadium.
Amorim said: "I would like to share our fans' pain; they deserve better. We did our best. As for the future, we will see what we will do."
He added: "We have two plans, even for the transfer market. We must recognize the difficulty of a club like ours not qualifying for the Champions League, but we must now get past this stage. If we had more time, we would have more time to think and work during the week, and to be better in the Premier League. This will be our focus."
Regarding the future: "I have always been honest with you. We did not perform well today, but we were better than the opponent. In the second half, we did everything we could, whether by playing on the flanks or through crosses or passes inside the penalty area."
He continued: "I think today was not a good day. We were not perfect; we have a lot to improve, but I am always honest with you."
On failing to qualify for the Champions League: "I will not be here to defend myself. That is not my style. I will not say, 'I will improve our performance because of this' or 'I have these problems.' I will not do that. At this moment, it is about a little confidence. Let's see."
He emphasized: "As I said before, I am always honest. I am always open. If the board and the fans feel that I am not the right person, I will leave the next day without any discussion about compensation, but I will not resign; again, I am very confident in my job, and as you can see, I will not change anything in the way I perform things."
Regarding the aspects in which the team has improved since his arrival: "We have suffered from some bad results, and I think we have improved in some aspects. We have played some matches where we did not score even in the small details."
He added: "I remember many matches, against Nottingham, Wolverhampton, and Manchester City at home, where we created more chances but did not score, and we lost some matches. It is a different style of play; I try to push the players as best as I can to help them. I have been tough on the players.
He concluded: "I understand that we created many chances in the second half, and if we had scored one goal, our press conference would have been completely different. I have nothing to offer to the fans. But I will continue to do things the way I know."
