Tottenham Player: After Winning the Title, No One Cares About Our Bad Season
Tottenham Hotspur player Brennan Johnson appeared in press statements after winning the UEFA Europa League title against Manchester United (1-0).
Johnson said: "I am extremely happy now. This season has not been good at all, and none of us as players care about that now. This club hasn't won a title in 17 years, and that means a lot to me."
He added: "All the fans are criticized, and we are criticized for not winning any titles. We had to win the first title, I am very happy. Since I came here, people have been saying: Tottenham is a good team but hasn’t succeeded in winning, but we succeeded that day."
Regarding his goal: "I knew I touched the ball a little, then I looked up and the ball was sneaking into the net."
He continued: "The last five minutes I couldn't watch the match, I was just asking: How much time is left? When we defended that last corner, I was told the match was over, and my feeling of relief is indescribable."
He stressed: "Tottenham Hotspur finishing in seventeenth place in the Premier League is not enough. We had a great run in the European competitions. The fans were amazing, both at home and away, and they had the edge over United's fans. They were all here an hour before the match, and they helped us win."
About coach Ange Postecoglou: "He has done his duty. He said he wins in his second season with titles, and that is true."
He concluded: "I can't thank the coach enough for his great confidence in us; he has a wonderful way of motivating us."
