Courtois: Proud to Reach This Number, and We Will Continue to Fight Until the End
Thursday 15-05-2025
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois appeared in press statements after the 2-1 victory over Mallorca in the 36th round of La Liga at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

He said in his remarks: "300 matches in La Liga? I wished to play more matches, but I missed some due to injury last year. It is a pride for me to reach this achievement. I have always dreamed of being the goalkeeper for Real Madrid since I was young; reaching this number in La Liga is wonderful, with all these titles. This season has not been the best in terms of the number of titles, but we continue to work. I am excited to keep defending this shirt in more matches."

He added: "The first half was a reflection of our season. There was some bad luck, and they scored without doing much. We had many opportunities and struggled a bit to score; when the ball refuses to go in, you feel bitter, but in the end, we scored the equalizer. Then they had a chance to take a 2-1 lead in a one-on-one situation that I saved, but we maintained our faith and struggle."

He continued: "After a great effort on Sunday against Barcelona and with all these absences, continuing to fight after a long season is not easy. We believed in our abilities. This motto always imposes on us to fight until the end. Even though the points gap with Barcelona is large, we will believe in our abilities until it becomes impossible in sports terms."

He elaborated: "Jakobo is a real gem, a wonderful person. He was unlucky in the two matches he played against Leganés and Celta. He continues to work hard, and today I saw him with great comfort and confidence. He performed wonderfully; he was close to finishing some balls throughout the match. Scoring the last goal is a great addition to the youth team. There are many young players in goal, and when needed, they are present, like Raúl, Jakobo, Gonzalo, and Víctor Muñoz. We, as Real Madrid fans, must be proud of the youth team and continue to trust them."

He concluded: "How are you? It is not pleasant to concede four goals against Barcelona. I continue to save shots, but if you don't win, it is tough. You have to maintain your focus, and when we equalized 1-1 and they had that chance, I had to be present to save the team. That is my role; physically, I feel good. I continue to work hard to finish the season in the best possible shape and to be in excellent physical condition for the Club World Cup, which is also a goal we strive to achieve. We will enter the tournament with great enthusiasm and want to win it. It is the first edition, and if we can win it while playing with Real Madrid, the best club in the world, that is something we should strive for.
