Amorim: If We Don't Feel That Losing is the End of the World, We Don't Deserve to Play in the Champions
Sunday 11-05-2025
The head coach of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim, confirmed that the team is experiencing a deep mental crisis, warning that the absence of urgency and desire to win represents the greatest threat to the club's future, pointing out that the problems go beyond mere match results or championships.

Amorim said: "If we look at the goals we concede, we will find that they can be easily avoided; there is a clear lack of energy and urgency, and this is the most dangerous thing facing this club. You can feel it from the start of the match, as we lack the urgency to move between our area and the opponent's area, which is something that needs to change immediately."

He added: "I take responsibility for what is happening; it is frustrating that we are close to achieving goals, but we do not show enough desire to protect our goal. This repeats week after week; in the Europa League, we do not perform our best, but there is a different feeling of urgency, and this is what we lack in the domestic league."

He emphasized: "We need to work on change both on and off the pitch; if we cannot change it, we must make way for others. We are all responsible; the problem is not with the players, but with the responsibility that I personally bear."

He continued: "We are about to face a strong team from the Premier League, and of course, we will be more focused, but this is concerning; we must be focused in every match, not just in the big encounters."

In a strong statement, the Manchester United coach clarified that the Europa League final should not distract from the real issues, saying: "For me, even if we win the Europa League, the problems we face are bigger than just winning a trophy. We do not feel the danger when we lose, and this is what worries me the most; we should feel that defeat is the end of the world, especially when we are not in a winning position."

He added: "What we are going through now is a critical moment in the history of Manchester United; if we do not change our way of playing and our feeling of urgency and desire to win every match, we should not participate in the Champions League. We need to focus on learning to compete week after week in the Premier League first."

Regarding the injury of young Leni Euro, Amorim said: "We hope that the injury is not serious; we will assess his condition, and I believe it is a minor injury."
