Officially: Al Ahly Announces the Departure of Marcel Kohler from Coaching the Team
Saturday 26-04-2025
Al Ahly club announced on Saturday evening the departure of Swiss coach Marcel Kohler from coaching the first football team, after the team's failure to qualify for the final of the African Champions League.

Al Ahly drew against South Africa's Sundowns 1-1 at Cairo Stadium, following a goalless draw in the first leg, thus exiting the tournament from the semi-finals.

Al Ahly clarified in an official statement that it thanked the Swiss coach, noting that the club's management is negotiating with Kohler to terminate the contract amicably and in a manner suitable for both parties.

Media figure Ahmed Shobir revealed via Al Ahly Channel that the club is close to announcing the appointment of a temporary coaching staff on Sunday to lead the upcoming training sessions.

Kohler failed to meet the expectations of the Red Castle fans this season, after losing the African Super Cup against Zamalek, exiting from the semi-finals of the Intercontinental Cup, in addition to the team's drop to second place in the Egyptian league's championship phase behind Pyramids by 4 points.

Kohler's departure comes about 50 days before the start of the 2025 Club World Cup, in which Al Ahly is preparing to participate.

Kohler led Al Ahly since September 2022, managing 159 official matches, achieving 108 wins, drawing in 33 matches, and suffering only 17 losses.
