Mariska: It was a tough day, and we could have defended better against the two goals

Chelsea coach Enzo Mariska appeared in a press statement after the 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town in the 32nd round of the English Premier League.

The coach said: "Today was tough. I think their first goal changed the course of the match. In the first 20 minutes, we were the dominant side, but we didn’t capitalize on our chances. After that, we weren't good enough in the first half. In the second half, we got back into the game."

He added: "About the first goal we conceded that changed the course of the match? This is football. Sometimes a simple thing changes the course of the game; we conceded a goal and lost some confidence. But in the second half, we regained our balance and got back into the match."

He emphasized: "Definitely. I think we could have handled the two goals much better. We have the ability to defend in a stronger way."

He concluded: "In the second half, we made some tactical changes. The message was clear in terms of starting in the right way and creating chances. And when you concede a goal, it’s time to be stronger and keep playing. We added an extra midfielder, and that helped us."
