Financial Obstacles and Saudi Competition Complicate Diaz's Deal with Barcelona

Wednesday 09-04-2025
Barcelona is facing significant challenges in its pursuit of Colombian Luis Diaz, the Liverpool star, during the upcoming summer transfer window, despite the interest of the team's sporting director, Deco, in bringing the player to bolster the attacking line.

According to the Catalan newspaper "Sport", Barcelona had previously attempted to sign Diaz, but those efforts were unsuccessful, and now the club is confronted with major financial obstacles, alongside fierce competition from Saudi clubs such as Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli, which are preparing to make huge offers that exceed Barcelona's capabilities.

Diaz's contract with Liverpool runs until 2027, and it has not been renewed yet, while reports suggest that the English club is currently focused on renewing the contract of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah. Nevertheless, the possibility of Diaz's departure remains, but his expected price, which exceeds 75 million euros, makes the deal nearly impossible for Barcelona amid the economic crisis.

Deco considers Diaz the ideal option to strengthen the attack, given his tactical flexibility, individual skills, and European and international experience. He sees him as a priority over names like Nico Williams and Rafael Leão. Although the player has previously expressed admiration for a move to Barcelona, financial temptations from the Saudi league may change his stance.

Barcelona's management is expected to finalize its decision regarding the new winger deal in May, after evaluating the available options both technically and financially.
