De la Fuente Explains Reasons for Excluding Isco and Gavi
Luis de la Fuente, the head coach of the Spanish national team, revealed the reasons for excluding Francisco Isco, the Real Betis player, and Gavi, the Barcelona star, from Spain's squad for the matches against the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League.
De la Fuente said: "Isco and Gavi are among the great players who were unable to be in this list, but they always remain part of our considerations."
He added: "We have chosen a lineup that suits our tactical plan and the style of play we want to implement, and we believe this is the best possible list at the moment to achieve our goals."
He continued: "Fortunately, we have a large number of outstanding players, which demonstrates the strength and greatness of Spanish football."
The Spain coach also talked about Barcelona star Pedri, stating: "Pedri gives us many options with his versatility. He is the best player in the world in his position. He has played in a deeper role with his club, while here we see him in a more advanced attacking role."
Regarding the controversial penalty awarded to Julian Alvarez, De la Fuente said: "If the decision is in my favor, I will be happy, and if it is against me, I will be angry."
The Spanish coach also issued a warning to young star Lamine Yamal, saying: "He still needs to develop, he has immense potential, but he must be ready for criticism."
He added, cautioning: "The first to criticize and tear him apart will be the media; when he goes two matches without scoring, you will say he is lacking goals, so he needs to be strong and prepared for this pressure."
