Amorim: We Will Be Under Pressure in the Return Leg, and We Suffered from Fatigue

Friday 07-03-2025
Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim appeared in a press statement after the 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad in the first leg of the Round of 16 of the Europa League at the Anoeta Stadium.

The coach said: "I felt we were in control of the match until the penalty kick, and the penalty changed the momentum. Our team was really tired in the final minutes. We will move to this stage at Old Trafford, and it will be a different match. The pressure will be on us in that stadium."

He added: "We will try to hold up physically to reach the match on Sunday. The momentum changed, but I believe it was clear fatigue."

Regarding offensive tactics: "We look at the opponent and the way they try to press. Which player will keep running? We try to imagine the right characteristics for that match."

He continued: "I think we had good possession of the ball until the penalty. We know they pressed us, our decisions in the final third were not ideal, we have to move on to the next match."

On Rasmus Hojlund: "He is really trying hard. He has been running, and we know that Real Sociedad has a strong defense, and he used his speed to win and fight. He has to keep playing and not be worried."

On Joshua Zirkzee, who scored Manchester United's goal: "He deserved it, he is doing well and improving many things in his game. He deserves this moment and was important for us today."

On Alejandro Garnacho: "He was tired, and you could see that because we made many transitions in the second half. At times, he was late in defense [in the second half]. I felt he was tired to recover and do the same things."
