Qatar national team coach Marques Lopez said that the Iranian national team was better than his team in yesterday's match.

Iran beat Qatar 4-1 in the fourth round of Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Lopez told the AFC website on Wednesday :"I congratulate the Iranian team on their victory, especially since they performed better than us."

He added: “In general, the match witnessed many changes, especially since we started well and succeeded in scoring first.” There was another opportunity to strengthen the score. On the other hand, the Iranian national team had many chances, including hitting the post, then they scored two goals, and this is football. I congratulate them, they were the best.”

Lopez continued: “Our goal has not changed, which is to qualify for the World Cup, and the opportunity still exists, even though the group includes good teams such as Uzbekistan and Iran.”

He concluded his statements by saying: “The task is not easy, but the opportunity to qualify is available, and we must fight for our chances until the last breath. There are still matches and many points that we must strive to obtain.”
