This crisis began when the Libyan national team’s delegation was attacked in the last match that was held in Nigeria in the third round of the tournament. The African Cup of Nations was subjected to harassment and long inspections during their trip, in addition to the absence of any police patrols near the mission.
The Libyan leader, Faisal Al-Badri, stated that the players were transported in cars from the Libyan embassy. Through unsafe roads and forests, the journey lasted for five hours amid many obstacles and harsh conditions.
