Dutch Steven Bergwijn, the new Al-Ittihad player, responded to the statements of his country’s national team coach, Ronald Koeman, who criticized the player’s arrival in the Saudi League, considering him outside his calculations in the next stage.
Al-Ittihad Club signed a contract with Dutchman Steven Bergwijn, coming from Ajax, to strengthen the ranks of the club, in the final hours of the summer transfer period, which closed its doors to Rushen League clubs, last Monday.
Berwijn said in his statements to the Dutch newspaper “Telegraph”: “I will no longer play under Koeman’s leadership. If he were a committed national coach, he would have called me first to hear the story from my side.”
He continued, saying: “I had a lot of good times with him, so it is very easy and I am disappointed. He had a previous opinion about Brian Proby, which he did not He was nice too.”
He continued: “This is not the appropriate way to treat your players, and if he continues this pattern, he will lose all his credibility.”
He added: “How can you say such things without talking to me? It is true that I am 26, but can we take such a step only at the age of 32? (He means Wijnaldum) I am improving in all aspects.
Bergoyne added: “I support... My decision to move to Al-Ittihad is 1000% and I am happy with my new club, and it is an honor for me to play for the Netherlands national team, but under the leadership of this national coach, I don’t want that anymore.”
He continued: “I only received friendly messages from international players after I joined Al-Ittihad. Everyone is happy for me. It can be done this way. Koeman may not like it.”
Regarding his arrival in the Saudi League, he said: “Without a doubt, I will improve from the financial aspect, but from the sporting aspect, I am excited to compete with Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Moussa Diaby, Pereira, and Fabinho.”
